About Our Centre

Acton Early Childhood Centre is a community-based long day care centre offering full time and part time care to staff and students at the ANU and to members of the general community.

The Centre

Our Centre has a long history having been in operation for over 35 years. The building in which we operate is of heritage interest and lends itself well to the homely environment which is so much a part of our vision and philosophy.

Our Educators

Our team of educators are committed to and passionate about early childhood education and care. We share a goal of promoting the human rights, safety and wellbeing of all children, and we consider and respect the diverse backgrounds and needs of children. Our Centre aims to create an environment that promotes and enables children’s participation and is welcoming, culturally safe and inclusive for all children and their families.

Our Centre aims to create an environment that promotes and enables children’s participation and is welcoming, culturally safe and inclusive for all children and their families.

Centre educators take into account children’s learning styles, abilities, interests, linguistic and cultural diversity and family circumstances when planning and implementing learning programs. We seek to nurture the development of each child by providing opportunities for imaginative play, meaningful purposeful work and experiences in the arts, in nature and in the community. Our educators support and respect the history and backgrounds of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and aim to foster each child’s sense of identity.

Our maximum capacity is 54 children per day. Full and part time care is available, with part time care defined as being up to and including four days a week, and a full time position providing care from Monday to Friday.

Acton Early Childhood Centre is assessed by the Australian Children’s Education & Care Quality Authority as a part of our participation in the National Quality Standard Assessment and Rating System.

Acton Early Childhood Centre is currently rated as Meeting the National Quality Standard.
